Business Coaching and what can go wrong with it?
Coaching is a form of counseling for persons with management responsibilities and has also an impact on private matters and general lifestyle. It helps clients to learn new skills and tools to establish own capacity for a more satisfying and successful future for themselves. The Coach is more a counselor and not a therapist.
What (negative) impacts business coaching can have?
I experienced the following aspects to go wrong:
- Time and money
A certain budget has been allocated by the employer, meaning a certain number of hours for an unpredictable outcome of coaching. At the beginning it is uncertain if the budget is sufficient for a successful coaching.
- Professional and private aspects are mixed up
Professional problems often occur from the private sphere. This kind of mixing is normal. If the budget is not sufficient for a goal-oriented coaching private problems might occur which cannot be dealt with by the coach. As a result the coaching is not successful and the coachee becomes frustrated.
3. Impacts on professional life
If deeper problems during the coaching sessions occur, it might have an impact on the quality of work of the coachee.
