During the next few weeks we will write about motivation in projects. We will introduce different concepts and share our experience with you.
And of cause we also want to know
what motivates you and
how you motivate your team.
In his book “Drive” Daniel Pink writes that not extrinsic factors like more money, good grades, etc. motivate people, but autonomy, mastery and purpose.
The first factor is autonomy, people need to have autonomy over the 4 T’s:
1. Their tasks – what they do
2. Their time – when they do it
3. Their technique – how they do it
4. Their team – with whom they do it
The following statement by Teresa Amabile describes mastery best:” The desire to do something because you find it deeply satisfying and personally challenging inspires the highest levels of creativity, whether it’s in the arts, sciences or business.”
Humans, by their nature, seek purpose – a cause greater and more enduring than themselves. More and more companies start to consider purpose maximization alongside profit maximization as an aspiration and guiding principle.
